Motivation top tips

We’ve all heard the quote ‘motivation is what gets you started; habit is what keeps you going’. What if motivation doesn’t get you started. What if you know that you need to do something, but you just can’t get motivated? What if getting started is the hardest part?

Start small. Really small. Start with one small thing.

Here are some top tips to help with getting started small –

Set a realistic goal

Make sure you set an achievable, short-term goal to get started! This will help remove the fear and give you that drive to keep going! Focus on this one small goal to create short term motivation and you have begun!

Be clear on your Why

Take time to really get clear on why you want this. This is your motivating force.

List the benefits

Take 5 minutes to list the benefits of achieving this goal e.g. a short walk everyday will improve sleep, mood, etc.

Be inspired

Find inspiration from someone who’s achieved something similar! Articles, blogs, friends…

Write it down somewhere!

Stick it to your fridge, beside your bed, on a post it note beside your computer. Somewhere you can see it.

Tell a friend

Telling someone helps with accountability. If motivation drains, then they’ll help to get you back on track.

Celebrate your success!

Have a cool reward at the end when you achieve your goal and start again!

Most of all, be easy on yourself. If you miss a day, that’s ok! Always give yourself permission and give yourself a pep talk now and again. Every day is a new day.

Good luck
